A GUYANESE man was killed and another seriously injured after the motorcycle they were riding slammed into a private garbage truck that was reversing at the time in New York.
The incident occurred on Tuesday at approximately 13:10hrs on Liberty Avenue near 157th Street, Jamaica, Queens.

Dead is Joel Deonarine of Jamaica, New York and formerly of Bloomfield Village, East Berbice, Corentyne.

According to information, the men were proceeding at a fast rate of speed on a 1986 Honda motorcycle going west on Liberty Avenue when the motorcycle collided with the truck that was reversing. Both of the men were flung from the motorcycle and sustained severe injuries.

Deonarine, a father of one, was picked up and taken to the Jamaica Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The other injured person remains a patient at the said hospital, and is reportedly in a stable but serious condition. Relatives and friends of Deonarine expressed shock at his death and described him as a jovial person who always sought to make those around him happy.
