HGP Nightly News journalist Travis Chase, early Sunday morning shot and injured a man during a confrontation in Kitty, Georgetown police have confirmed.

According to the police reports, Chase, 31, allegedly shot Jimmy Ramgobin, 28, a labourer of Sandy Babb Street, Kitty who is presently receiving medical attention at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH).

Police investigation revealed that around 04:30hrs on Sunday, Chase arrived with his girlfriend in front of her Newtown, Kitty home, in his vehicle, and observed Ramgobin in front of the yard.

Chase reportedly exited his vehicle and approached Ramgobin, who allegedly attacked and began hurling bottles at him (Chase), from a bag he had in his possession. Chase is said to have pulled out his licensed firearm and discharged a round at Ramgobin. “Investigators have obtained statements in support of the suspect, who is a journalist; his firearm has been lodged and he is assisting with the investigation” the police said.

However, according to reports from neighbours nearby, Ramgobin is mentally unstable and would often sleep on the roadways. Chase later on his Facebook said “For the record…I am not in police custody, neither was I detained and placed into any lockups. There was an incident where I was attacked by a man who marked my vehicle and I defended myself. The police are handling the investigation.”
