AGAINST the backdrop of the Christmas Season, the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company plus (GTT+) on Saturday unveiled their second flagship store, and it is in the Fogarty’s General Store! The company in an effort to signal to the Guyanese market that they are “back and ready” launched the store, which offers a variety of services such as distribution of cellphone and other technological gadgets.
Speaking at the opening, newly-appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Justin Nedd said the telephone giant is sticking to its promise of doing more.
“This is our second flagship store, through which we intend to do and offer more to the public… as we want them to know that GTT is back and ready for business.”
Lauding the investment, Minister of Business Dominic Gaskin said it reflects investors’ confidence in the economy.
“This shows that there is an unshakable confidence in the Guyanese economy because there would not have been an investment if there was no potential. As such, I am encouraged by the investment, by a solid and reliable investor who has injected a lot into the country over the years.”
The company has rebranded to GTT+ at a time when the country is taking a fresh approach to development.
The rebranding, Mr Gaskin said, integrates easily into the fresh approach.
“Given that the ICT sector is a critical one and one which is on the developmental list for the Government of Guyana, any investment into this sector is well aligned in the direction the government wants to proceed in,” said Gaskin while stressing the importance of Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
He emphasised that the ability to compete internationally and remain relevant locally, relies on the existence of a constantly evolving communication sector.
Nevertheless, he urged that as the company and Guyana is gearing up for the Christmas holiday, they will receive lots of attention, with its “dynamic atmosphere”.
