Agri. team to conduct impact assessment of spring tide effects

THE Ministry of Agriculture said it will continue to dispatch technical teams to conduct an assessment of the impact of the recent spring tide and to follow up on interventions by the National Drainage and Irrigation Authority.
Regional Extension teams were deployed to the affected areas since Thursday.
The Ministry’s NDIA has been supporting the River and Sea Defence Unit of the Ministry of Public Works in vulnerable coastal and riverine areas that were affected by overtopping of the sea dams and river defence.
The Ministry of Agriculture said it will continue to provide support and at the same time ensure that all internal canals are clear to ensure accumulated water drain off at low tide.
The Minister of Agriculture, Hon. Robert Persaud has now mandated senior technical officers from various agencies to go out and support the regions. As such, teams will be in Regions Two, Three, Four, Five & Six today.
