Former Acting Chief Magistrate now Land Court Judge

FORMER Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson has been appointed Commissioner of Title (Land Court Judge).
She took the oath of office on Wednesday, in front of Prime Minister Samuel Hinds at his Wight’s Lane office, in Kingston, Georgetown.
Present, too, were Acting Chancellor of the Judiciary, Justice of Appeal Carl Singh; Acting Supreme Court Registrar Bibi Ali; the appointee’s mother, Ms. Shirley Robertson, other relatives and friends.
The 46-year-old Commissioner, who will serve in Berbice, thanked God for her success, noting that He is the one who exalts and humbles.
She also offered thanks to her family members, colleagues, friends and mentors.
Prime Minister Hinds said, in swearing to carry out the functions of Commissioner of Title, Robertson has pledged to honour and uphold the Constitution of Guyana.
He said there are certain institutions that are necessary in Guyana, especially those to manage laws and administer justice.
Mr. Hinds reminded Robertson that, in keeping her job, she, like others, will be exposed to the public where everyone makes a judgement on performance.
He thanked Robertson for taking up “this necessary job” and assured her that she will continue to be supported, so that what she does may, later, be referred to in the history of Guyana.
Justice Singh also congratulated Robertson and lauded the service she rendered to the Magistracy, acknowledging her willingness to serve in the elevated capacity.
He said she gave a good account of herself and added that, although the Magistracy was a difficult ship to steer, she was able to hold it on course.
Singh observed that Robertson is impatient, in the sense that she likes to get things done and see results.
Robertson’s mother, proud of her daughter’s achievement, thanked the Judiciary for recommending her promotion.
She admonished her daughter to carry out her duties to the best of her ability and encouraged her to put God first and see how everything will fall into place.
