THE St. Joseph High School defeated Diamond Secondary School on Sunday at the National Cultural Centre tarmac to capture the Deputy Commissioner of Police Trophy in the secondary schools’ tape-ball competition.
St. Joseph High advanced to the final after defeating St. John’s College in the semi-final, while Diamond Secondary secured its place in the championship match with a victory over B.V. Secondary School.
Batting first in the final, St. Joseph High scored 47 runs for three wickets. Savir Narine led the scoring with 21 runs, while Shane Khan was Diamond Secondary’s leading bowler with two wickets for 28 runs.
Diamond Secondary struggled in its reply, finishing on 28 runs for seven wickets. Kareem Joseph led the St. Joseph High’s bowling attack with four wickets for 19 runs.
Narine was subsequently named Player of the Tournament for his performances throughout the competition.
The winning team received the Deputy Commissioner of Police Trophy, while medals were presented to the other players.
The next competition is scheduled for October 18 at the National Park tarmac. Fifth- and sixth-form students will be excluded from that competition.
The tournament is being supported by senior executives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation, including Ambassadors Ivan Evelyn, Audrey Waddle and Keith George, as well as former Foreign Affairs Minister Carl Greenidge.
