THE inaugural ExxonMobil Under-18 Schools Football Tournament, organised by the Vurlon Mills Football Academy, will continue on Wednesday, October 7, as the competition begins to gather momentum across several regions.
The tournament has already kicked off in Region Seven, where Three Miles Secondary School registered the first victory of the competition with an emphatic 4-0 win over Bartica Secondary School in the boys’ encounter.
Attention now turns to the female competition, with Bartica Secondary and Three Miles Secondary scheduled to meet on Wednesday from 14:00hrs at the Bartica Community Centre Ground.
Several other zones will begin their campaigns on October 9. On the East Bank of Demerara, Dora Secondary School will face Covent Garden Secondary School in a boys’ encounter at Providence from 15:00hrs.
The East Coast Demerara leg will also kick off on October 9 at Plaisance. Bladen Hall Secondary will take on Annandale Secondary in the female competition at 14:00hrs, before Plaisance Secondary and Beterverwagting Secondary meet in the boys’ division at 15:30hrs.
Region Six will get underway on the same day, with New Amsterdam Secondary facing Tutorial Academy in a female fixture at All Saints from 14:00hrs. Action there will continue on October 10, when Lower Corentyne Secondary meet Canje Secondary in both the male and female divisions. Corentyne Comprehensive will also face Vryman’s Erven in both divisions, while Port Mourant Secondary will oppose Tutorial Academy in the boys’ competition.
The Georgetown North and South zones are also scheduled to begin on October 9.
In Georgetown North, Queen’s College will host Tutorial High in the female competition at 14:00hrs, followed by their male encounter at 15:30hrs. Campbellville Secondary and North Georgetown Secondary are also scheduled to meet in a female fixture.
Georgetown South will see East Ruimveldt Secondary battle Lodge Secondary in the female and male matches at the West Ruimveldt ground. Tucville Secondary will also host Charlestown Secondary in both divisions on October 9.
The zone continues the following day with Brickdam Secondary against North Ruimveldt Secondary in a boys’ contest, while The New Central High and Dolphin Secondary will clash in both female and male action.
Region Three joins the action on October 10 with four boys’ matches at Friendship Park. Westminster Secondary will face DeWillem Secondary at 10:00hrs, followed by Leonora Secondary against Stewartville Secondary at noon. West Demerara Secondary will then meet Uitvlugt Secondary at 14:00hrs, before Vreed-en-Hoop Secondary and Patentia Secondary close the day from 16:00hrs.
The Mabaruma sub-region of Region One is scheduled to begin on October 15, when Hosororo Secondary faces Wauna Primary Top in a boys’ encounter at Hosororo from 15:00hrs.
The Moruca leg follows on October 16 at Santa Rosa, with Santa Rosa Secondary meeting St. Nicholas Primary Top in both female and male competition, while Waramuri Secondary will oppose Kwebanna Secondary in both divisions.
Region Ten also kicks off on October 16 at Wisburg. Linden Foundation Secondary will face Harmony Secondary at 14:00hrs, before Wisburg Secondary and New Silvercity Secondary meet at 15:30hrs.
Region Five will begin on October 17 at the No. 5 Ground, with Mahaicony Secondary and Bygeval Secondary meeting in both the boys’ and girls’ competitions. Belladrum Secondary and No. 8 Secondary will also face each other in both divisions.
Region Two is scheduled to open its programme on October 23 at the Richmond Ground. Charity Secondary will take on Cottonfield Secondary in the boys’ competition at 10:00hrs, followed by Charity Secondary against Abram Zuil Secondary in the female competition at noon.
With the first result already recorded in Bartica, the inaugural ExxonMobil U-18 Schools Football Tournament is set to expand across Guyana in the coming weeks as schools compete for honours within their respective zones and progression to the later stages of the competition.
