SLINGERZ FC delivered another composed and convincing performance on Sunday night, defeating Santos FC 3-0 at the National Training Centre, Providence, when Season 8 of the GFF Elite League continued.
After a competitive opening period, Slingerz found the breakthrough in the 26th minute through Neron Barrow, who gave his side the advantage and shifted the momentum firmly in their favour.
The pressure continued and just 11 minutes later, Kelsey Benjamin doubled the lead in the 37th minute, giving Slingerz a commanding 2-0 advantage heading into halftime.
Santos attempted to reorganise after the break, making changes at the start of the second half as they searched for a route back into the contest. However, Slingerz remained disciplined and controlled, limiting their opponents while continuing to threaten going forward.
The match was eventually put beyond doubt in the 83rd minute when substitute Yusifu Kargbo found the back of the net to make it 3-0.
Slingerz saw out the remaining minutes comfortably to secure all three points and another clean sheet, completing a professional performance from start to finish.
For Santos, it was a difficult night against one of the league’s strongest sides, and they will now turn their attention to their next fixture.
Meanwhile, the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) FC also produced a commanding performance in the second game of the double-header, sweeping aside Den Amstel FC 6-0.
GDF wasted virtually no time announcing their intentions. Just two minutes into the contest, Shakem Welcome found the breakthrough to put the soldiers ahead and immediately force Den Amstel onto the back foot.
The pressure continued, and in the 23rd minute, Ian Dooker doubled the advantage as GDF tightened their grip on the match. They carried a comfortable 2-0 lead into the halftime interval, but the biggest damage was still to come.
After the restart, GDF shifted into another gear. Abumchi Opara made it 3-0 in the 58th minute, before Jayden Harris added the fourth in the 70th. With Den Amstel struggling to contain the relentless attack, Seon Tyshawn Cato struck in the 80th minute to push the score to 5-0.
Opara then completed the night in emphatic fashion, scoring his second goal in the 90th minute to seal a resounding 6-0 victory.
From Welcome’s early opener to Opara’s final strike, GDF delivered a ruthless attacking performance, with five different players finding the net as they collected another three points in the battle for GFF Elite League Season 8 supremacy.
For Den Amstel, it was a difficult evening in Providence and one they will look to put behind them quickly as the competition continues. (GFF Release)
