GUYANA’S media fraternity and the wider national community are mourning the death of legendary broadcaster, communications specialist and educator, Dr Rovin Deodat, whose distinctive voice and lifelong commitment to knowledge-sharing made him one of the country’s most recognisable media personalities.

Dr Deodat died on Friday afternoon, leaving behind a remarkable legacy spanning more than four decades in broadcasting, public communication, education and media development.

In a message of condolences on the passing of Dr. Deodat, Minister within the Office of the Prime Minister, Kwame McCoy said: “I am deeply saddened by the passing of long-time broadcaster Dr. Rovin Deodat, whose leadership and mentorship helped to set the standard for broadcasting in Guyana during its formative years.”

He recalled: “As a young person starting out at the then Guyana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), it was always a joy to share the company of Dr. Deodat and experience his remarkable linguistic skills.

“For many years, he brought knowledge, clarity and an unmistakable command of language to the airwaves through his popular programme, From Word to Word.”

The minister said his contribution extended well beyond the microphone.

“As a communications specialist, trainer and member of the Guyana National Broadcasting Authority, Dr. Deodat continued to share his knowledge with younger media practitioners and to advance professional standards across the sector,” Minister McCoy said.

Guyana, he related, has lost a distinguished voice, a master of the English language and a treasured mentor whose influence helped shape generations of broadcasters.

“I extend heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, former colleagues and the wider media fraternity,” the minister said.
