A 33-year-old gold miner was, on Tuesday, remanded to prison after pleading guilty to a charge of unlawful wounding at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court.
Godwell Payne, of South Haslington, East Coast Demerara, was charged under Section 50 of the Criminal Law (Offences) Act, Chapter 8:01.
Payne was arrested on Sunday, September 6, 2026, in connection with an alleged unlawful wounding and was subsequently charged on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.
He appeared before Magistrate Caressa Henry at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court, where the charge was read to him.
Payne pleaded guilty and was remanded to prison.
The matter was adjourned to October 7, 2026, for continuation.
