POLICE are investigating the discovery of a suspected firearm and eight rounds of ammunition during a search at a residence at Main and Asylum Streets, New Amsterdam, Berbice, on Monday.
According to preliminary investigations, police ranks acted on information received and proceeded to the residence, where a search was conducted.
During the operation, a suspected firearm and three suspected rounds of ammunition were found concealed in a wardrobe in one of the bedrooms.
A further search of the premises resulted in the discovery of five additional suspected rounds of ammunition, which were concealed in the ceiling of an adjoining washroom.
The suspected firearm and the eight rounds of ammunition were taken to the Central Police Station, where they were lodged pending examination.
No arrest has been made as investigation into the discovery continues.
