GUYANA Defence Force (GDF) Lieutenant Randy Wade has become the first local officer to graduate from the Modularised Initial Officer Training Course Number 40 (MIOT 40) programme at the prestigious Royal Air Force Officer Training College, underscoring the GDF’s deepening engagement with world-class military training institutions.
The GDF noted that this accomplishment comes as the Force continues to expand the skills and expertise of its Air Corps, with a clear focus on enhancing operational capacity through advanced international training.
Producing officers and ranks of the highest calibre, the GDF emphasised, is crucial to operational success, directly strengthening leadership effectiveness, mission readiness, and the overall execution of its mandate.
In this context, Lieutenant Wade’s graduation was seen as a significant step forward in building a more capable and professional Air Corps.
MIOT 40 was conducted from September 22, 2025 to April 2, 2026, and was delivered across four progressive six-week modules, culminating in a comprehensive series of summative assessments.
The modularised course is designed to equip junior officers with the essential skills required for effective leadership, command, and operational performance in demanding environments.
Throughout the programme, participants were exposed to diverse training settings and engaged with international peers, fostering professional growth and a broader understanding of contemporary military operations.
The structured, phased approach of the training ensured the steady development of key competencies necessary for junior officers to perform effectively in dynamic operational settings, both at home and in joint or multinational contexts.
The GDF stated that Lieutenant Wade’s success underscored the importance of continuous professional development and strategic international partnerships in building a modern and adaptable military.
Chief of Defence Staff, Brigadier Omar Khan, MSS, along with Officers and Ranks of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF), extended congratulations to Lieutenant Wade on his successful completion of the programme.
In congratulating Lieutenant Wade, the Guyana Defence Force commended his outstanding achievement and extended best wishes for his continued contribution to the development of the Force.
His performance, the GDF added, stands as an example of the high standards to which its officers and ranks continue to aspire.
