SGCC elects new executive officers for 2026–2027 term

AT a time of accelerating economic activities across both nations, the Suriname-Guyana Chamber of Commerce (SGCC) has elected its executive officers for the 2026–2027 term, signalling a renewed commitment to deepening bilateral trade and private-sector collaboration between Suriname and Guyana.
The newly elected leadership brings together a diverse mix of financial, legal, technological, and operational expertise drawn from both countries.
Mark Anthony Sookhai, a Chartered Accountant and Partner at M Sookhai & Co., with over 20 years of professional experience, has been elected Chair of the Chamber.
He will be supported by Vice-Chair Navin Gangaram-Panday, a Certified Public Accountant (USA) and Managing Partner of RCFA Accountants & Tax Advisors in Suriname, who is widely recognised for his work assisting businesses in establishing and operating across the Surinamese market.
Rounding out the executive leadership are Annabelle Carter-Sharma, Company Secretary and Operations and Quality Director at Total Property Management Services, who takes on the role of Treasurer, and Dr Vishnu Doerga, Chairman of ActionINVEST Caribbean Inc and co-founder of the SGCC itself, who returns as Board Secretary.
Dr Doerga brings over two decades of leadership in investment, private-sector development, and regional trade.
The incoming Board of Directors further reinforces the chamber’s broad sectoral reach. Directors elected for the 2026–2027 term include Dr Alista Bishop, a financial expert specialising in investment strategy and oil and gas advisory; Brian Imambaks, a technology and innovation leader focused on AI and automation solutions through Technovate N.V.; and Derrick Klaverweide, Commercial Director of Optiek Ninon, with considerable regional business expertise.
Also joining the board are Samuel Glasgow, a corporate attorney from the Glasgow Law Practice; Jimmy Manna, Managing Director of engineering and building technologies firm Elgawa N.V.; Pritipaul Singh Jr., Managing Director of Guyana Port Inc., bringing logistics and maritime expertise; and Angelique Redjodiwirjo, Senior Commercial Manager at Fernandes Bakery N.V., with a background in large-scale manufacturing and distribution.
In announcing the new leadership, the chamber expressed sincere appreciation to its outgoing executive officers and inaugural board, crediting them with establishing the SGCC as a credible and results-driven bilateral platform during a period of rapid economic transformation in both countries.
“With new leadership in place, SGCC remains firmly focused on advancing private-sector collaboration and strengthening economic ties between Suriname and Guyana,” the chamber said in a statement, noting that the importance of strong, sustained private-sector engagement continues to grow as both nations experience rapid expansion across the energy, infrastructural, and industrial sectors.
The SGCC currently serves businesses and partners in Suriname, Guyana, across CARICOM, and internationally, delivering over 10 events and 12 targeted trade missions annually.
At the centre of its 2026 calendar is the flagship International Business Conference (IBC) 2026, scheduled to take place in Suriname from October 13–15, supported by SITA and G-Invest.
The conference is expected to draw regional and international stakeholders seeking to engage across both markets.
As the Suriname-Guyana corridor emerges as one of the most dynamic economic zones in the Caribbean and South America, the chamber says it remains committed to ensuring that opportunity is matched by partnership, supporting businesses to engage confidently across borders and contributing to long-term, shared prosperity.
