Greaves dominates RBC/CID programme

RORAIMA Bikers Club’s (RBC) Alanzo Greaves continued his immense showing on the local cycling scene this year, when he dominated his club’s inaugural Caribbean International Distributors Incorporated (CID) 10 race programme that was held around the Seawall band stand yesterday morning.

altAfter failing to place in the top three of the Category 1-3 five laps event which was won by National Road Race Champion Orville Hinds, Greaves rebounded to take the top prize in the Win and Out and Points Race which were both eight lap events and the feature race, which went for 30 laps respectively.
Raul Leal took the top position in the Category 4 five laps event from Gordon Sampson and Delroy Hinds, which was followed by Orville Hinds’ victory in the Category 1-3 event over Jude Bentley and Rastaff O’Selmo respectively.
The Veteran’s Under-50 event was won by Junior Niles from Ian ‘Dumb Boy’ Jackson and Ralph Williams, Kravitz Jeffrey took the 12-14/Juvenile event from Jamal John and Raphael Leung, Virgil Jones the Veteran Over-50 event from Dwayne Ramsay and Lancelot Rose and Julio Melville, the Mountain Bike category from Clyde Jacobs and Garfield Lorimar.
Following Mikhail Diaz’s dangerous riding act before and after the finish line in the BMX Open category, Leung was awarded the top place with Diaz placing second and Rawle Stephan third, with Diaz being relegated to the runner-up position for his actions.
After taking the Win and Out event from O’Selmo and Horace Burrowes, Greaves returned to claim two of the eight laps, coupled with a second position in another to chalk up 8points and the top position in the points race, with Orville Hinds (7 points) and Andrew Reece (4 points) finishing second and third respectively.
Following a 20 minutes grace period, over 30 cyclists were sent on their way for the feature event which went for 30 laps and as early as the first lap, Greaves, O’Selmo, Hamza Eastman and John Charles opened a small lead on the peloton.
That was increased to 45 seconds, as the front quartet stepped up the pace on the peloton that included Reece, Leal, Jackson, brothers Orville and Delroy Hinds, Jude Bentley, Raynauth Jeffrey, Robin Persaud, Walter Grant-Stuart, Raymond Newton, Marlon Williams and Christopher Holder.
As the pace increased at the front, Charles found it difficult to continue and was left behind during the 18th lap, while Jackson made his solo move to the front during the 20th lap, in his bid to catch up with Greaves, O’Selmo and Eastman, who had no intentions of granting him such privileges.
As the front trio worked to maintain and at the same time increased their lead, Jackson was wheeled in by the peloton during the 22nd lap, following which Orville Hinds made his solo move to catch the front trio, with Reece, Burrowes and Wazim Gafoor chasing relentlessly.
Greaves used his sprinting ability to take the top podium spot and four of the 10 prime prizes in a time of 1h. 07mins: 22secs over Eastman and O’Selmo who shared the other six prime prizes equally, while Orville Hinds, Burrowes and Reece completed the top six paying positions.
General Manager of CID Jailall Ragnauth offered profound congratulations to president of RBC Brian Allen and the cyclists for organizing and making the event a successful one, while pledging his company’s support to such ventures in the future.
