A 25-YEAR-OLD carpenter of Richmond Village on the Essequibo Coast was on Thursday sent to prison for three years by Essequibo Magistrate Sunil Scarce for the possession of cocaine. Reports said that Rameshwar Lall was arrested on April 10 after police searched his person and found a whitish substance suspected to be cocaine in his right side pants pocket.
The carpenter who was unrepresented by an attorney appeared before the magistrate on Thursday in the Anna Regina Court and pleaded guilty to the charge.
Meanwhile Patrick James of Abram Zuil Village, also on the Essequibo Coast, appeared before the same magistrate to answer to a charge of possession of narcotics and was fined $25,000 or three months in prison. Reports said the man who is a labourer was found with a portion of cannabis sativa when he was searched by police who were on patrol. He pleaded guilty to the charge. (Rajendra Prabhulall).
