Jury frees Dexter Marshall of ‘Lil Mark’ murder

YESTERDAY, in a surprise verdict, a Demerara Assizes jury found Dexter Marshall, called ‘Deckie’, not guilty of the murder of Mark Caesar, called ‘Lil Mark’.

Following the jury’s verdict, Justice Roxanne George discharged the freed man, telling him, “You are extremely fortunate, as far as I am concerned. You are free to go. Walk the straight and narrow path.”
Marshall was charged with having murdered Mark Caesar on October 1, 2010 in the county of Demerara. The jury had visited the locus-in-quo at Broad and Adelaide Streets; and prosecutors Miss Rhonder Weever and Miss Natasha Backer had, in addressing the jury, utilized a ‘visual demonstration’ in order to bring home the case to the jury.
The police had recovered spent shells and bullets at the scene when ‘Lil Mark’ was shot to death.

Marshall was represented by Attorney-at-law Mr. Huckumchand, who had urged the jury to find his client not guilty of the crime.
