Several injured as minibus rams lumber truck on Linden Highway

AT least ten persons were injured on Monday morning when a Route 43 minibus, BMM 9046, rammed a heavily laden timber truck, GMM 6471, as it was turning off the Linden Highway into a place known as Beckles Lumber Yard, situated in the vicinity of Loo Creek, within proximity of the Soweyo farm on the Linden Highway.

altPublic-spirited persons rushed the injured to the Linden Hospital Complex, where at least eight were treated and sent away; but two had to be transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC) for further medical treatment.
Ranks of the Police Traffic Department at Linden, who visited the scene to conduct investigations, detained the two drivers at the Mackenzie Police Station.
The minibus, driven by Denard McNabb, also known as ‘Original’, was reportedly en route to Georgetown when McNabb decided to overtake a car and another minibus. But as he approached the truck at a fast rate, he noticed that it had begun turning right into his path; and before he could have stopped the minibus, it rammed into the side of the truck, being driven by 25-year-old Vinny Hamilton. The drivers of the truck and minibus were not seriously injured.alt
59-year-old Aubrey Sampson, a passenger in the minibus, was seated behind the conductor’s seat. He could not recall anything other than seeing the lorry looming large before the bus rammed it. “It happened so quickly,” he said. He could recall only that the accident occurred at approximately 08:00 hrs.
The two persons rushed by ambulance to the GPHC were 17-year-old Lorriann Gilgeous of Water Lily Road in Wismar, Linden, who suffered a fractured femur; and 28-year-old Kevin Babb, of Amelia’s Ward, Linden, who sustained a fractured hip.
Others who were treated at the Linden Hospital Complex for minor injuries were Christine Sampson, 35, of Redwood Crescent Mackenzie; Pamela Gaine of Blue Mountain, Mahdia; Mavrick Willabus, 33, of 27 Amelia’s Ward, Linden; Dexter Edward Wagner, 29; Rudolph Ettienne; Dellon Sears, 19; and Aubrey Samuels, all of Coomacka Mines in Linden.
