Floodlights suffer mixed fortunes

FLOODLIGHTS rebounded nicely on Friday evening to beat Speed XI by a comfortable 72-run margin in their second best-of-three 25-over softball encounter at the Georgetown Cricket Club ground, Bourda.
After suffering a three-wicket loss on Wednesday evening at the National Park tarmac, in the initial round, Floodlights displayed good all-round performance on this occasion.

Floodlights were asked to take first strike and tallied a sufficient 175-8 from the allotment of 25 overs, while Speed XI, in reply, were dismissed meekly for 104 in the 22nd over.

Mark Harold led the way for Floodlights with a composed 45 laced with three sixes and a four and Imtiaz chipped in with 23 as Steve Narine grabbed three wickets for 26 runs from his five-over spell.

Speed XI began the chase in a positive manner reaching 65-0 in the tenth over with Yonnis Mohamed and Sham Nokta batted sensibly until the departure of the latter for 21. Mohamed cracked three sixes and two fours and once he was dismissed there was a steady procession from pavilion to pitch.

Armagan Gopaul was the tormentor for Floodlights, bowling with a consistent line and length to finish with three for 17 off five overs which also earned him the man-of-the-match award. He was admirably supported by Fidel Singh who snatched two wickets for 16 runs off four overs.

On the losing side, best bowler went to Narine; best batsman was Mohamed; best catcher Ron Ramnauth and best fieldsman was skipper Ravendra Madholall.

On the winning combination, best batsman was Harold; best bowler went to Singh; best fieldsman Kameel Khan and best catcher was adjudged to Mohamed.

The match was sponsored by Beharry Automotive Limited. General Manager and Consultant, Suresh Rampersaud, was on hand to present the prizes.

The two teams will meet in the final on Wednesday night at the National Park tarmac and a keen contest in highly anticipated. Trophies for this encounter are sponsored by Steve’s Jewellery.
