Dead GNNL Production Superintendent eulogised

– at special meeting with Chairman
DEAD accident victim, Guyana National Newspapers Limited (GNNL) Production Superintendent Raymond Lynch was eulogised yesterday during a special meeting of company employees and Chairman of the Board, Mr. Keith Burrowes.

‘AT SPECIAL MEETING’: From left, Chronicle’s Editor Mr. Mark Ramotar, Chairman Mr. Keith Burrowes, Workers’ Rep Mr. Colin Alfred, General Manager (Ag.) Mr. Nandkumar Puran (standing) and Assistant Administrative Manager Mr. Sam Bynoe.
Mr. Lynch died in his car which careened into a trench at Happy Acres, East Coast Demerara, in the wee hours last Saturday.

A post mortem examination determined that he had died by drowning.

In the gathering yesterday, Acting General Manager, Mr. Nandkumar Puran and Human Resources Consultant, Mr. Compton Peters were among senior officials who had words of appreciation for the deceased.

Accolades were also bestowed on Lynch, described as an outstanding worker who performed his duties with distinction and was a shining example for fostering good working relations.

A sombre mood prevailed yesterday with some teary- eyed colleagues gathered in the club room where, ironically, last Friday afternoon, Lynch socialised with workmates and one of his daughters celebrating her birthday.

Speakers yesterday reflected on his life, contribution to the company and lessons learnt from him.

Burrowes, on behalf of himself, the directors, Government and the Chronicle family, extended his deepest condolences to Lynch’s bereaved relatives.

Noting Lynch’s dedication and commitment to the job throughout the more than 30 years he worked at GNNL, Burrowes said, with the death of the former, the entity stands to lose tremendously.

The Chairman observed that, with the press prone to problems and evidently in need of a replacement, Lynch never became flustered nor exhausted his patience but, with his usual smile and an unmatched pride and sense of commitment, he did what was required to keep it going.

“That he stayed with the company for more than 30 years, when others were moving on, tells us of his commitment to the company. His passing is a void that cannot be easily filled,” Burrowes acknowledged.

GNNL recently acquired another press and it should have been installed the same day Lynch met his demise.

He was to have been the main man to do the installation and give it a test run.

Those whom he supervised, as well as staff from other departments all joined in expressing sadness over his passing and agreed he will be greatly missed,

Burrowes announced that GNNL will be contributing towards the cost of Lynch’s funeral and offer other financial support to his youngest child for a period of one year.
