Let’s stop this violence among students

AS I write this letter I am extremely sad.  I just return to my office from the Merriman Funeral Parlour where I saw young Bowman lying in a casket. His mother was weeping while many others, particularly students were also seen with tears in their eyes.  It is indeed troubling to see such a young, all-round student die from stabbing.
Young Sheema Mangar was brutally robbed of her cellphone and murdered.  Several persons certainly saw what took place but they are not giving information about the vehicle number.
Sasha Gilhuys a student from St. Rose’s Secondary was shot and robbed of her cellphone.
Today, school children are operating in gangs.  They are going to school with all sorts of weapons.  While the drop outs from school are at the street corners and on the streets liming and robbing people.
I am a parent and because of the serious development, I want to appeal to all parents, teachers, village elders and priests to let us make a genuine effort to stop this violence among our students.  Too many people are seeing these blatant robberies and they are not saying anything.  The time is now when we must report all and sundry who are robbing and thieving from citizens.  The police must also be more oriented to catch these criminals.
Far too many youngsters are seen riding bicycles and while liming on the streets robbing innocent people.  Let us stop these youths from doing simple larceny, because simple larceny will make them become professional bandits.
I am appealing to all Guyanese; let us resolve to help our youths by putting a halt to this youth violence.
