FIVE police ranks, under the command of a superintendent, on Friday conducted an intelligence operation at Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara and discovered 44 kilos of cannabis.

Two persons– a 60-year-old businessman and a 38-year-old miner– were taken into police custody.

Reports indicate that the policemen visited the home and identified themselves and requested to search the property for suspected drugs.

The ranks were then allowed to proceed and they discovered several plastic-wrapped parcels containing seeds, leaves and stems suspected to be cannabis in the first and second rooms of the three-bedroom flat concrete house.

The suspects were then told of the offence, cautioned then arrested and escorted to Narcotics Branch, CID Headquarters.
