Dear Editor,
As the majority of Guyanese would know, the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) has now decayed into a meme-inspiring joke. In fact, if one were to try to follow the PPP’s twistings, turnings, and spinnings, one would get “high-turn.” The most recent, big turn and spin is the urging by the PPP’s General Secretary that Guyanese should get registered to vote; this comes after that same PPP General Secretary told his supporters to boycott the registration process.
The most laughable joke was actual video of that same General Secretary going to a GECOM office to be registered. Editor, one cannot make this stuff up. Also, unbelievably, the PPP is now objecting to the names of people who are either dead, migrated, or otherwise non-existent in Guyana from being removed from the Official List of Electors (OLE), known as the voters’ list.
Editor, if I were a PPP supporter I would not only feel insulted, I would feel as abused as that same General Secretary’s “ex-wife” probably felt when she was reportedly unceremoniously evicted from the house by that same General Secretary. Editor, clearly, the people at the top of the PPP have absolutely no respect, no regard, and no consideration for their own supporters. The PPP elite simply have no consideration for ordinary Guyanese.
Editor, one needs to question; why would a party urge citizens not to register? Does that even make sense? Did the PPP consider the consequences? And now, in another surprise-turn, the PPP is claiming that removing the names of dead people from the voters’ list is illegal. As I have said, you just can’t make this stuff up.
Smart Guyanese, by this time, would know that the PPP appears to be in total disarray and confusion. Can a confused party be trusted to run a country? How can any right-thinking Guyanese vote for a party that destroyed an entire industry – the sugar sector? How can any smart person seriously consider voting for a party that called for a boycott of voter-registration thereby disenfranchising thousands of young people? Why would any intelligent person want an untrustworthy person in the Office of the President?
Editor, it is saddening that many Guyanese vote for candidates just because of racial considerations. I believe that it is time for us to grow up, become responsible, and cast our votes based on issues, facts, and proven records and accomplishments. It is time for Guyanese to decide who can be trusted with our futures.
Regards
