Man charged for killing brother-in-law

FOLLOWING his capture, a few days after allegedly killing his brother-in-law during a drunken quarrel over a female, Jermaine Barclay, aged 32 years of Lot of 54 Stanleytown, New Amsterdam appeared at the New Amsterdam Court on Thursday where he was not required to plea to a charge of murder before Senior Magistrate Alex Moore.

He has been remanded to prison until January 21, 2019 for report and fixture.
La Rose’s common-law wife, Asha Barclay, had related to the Guyana Chronicle that her reputed husband and her brother, Jermaine called ‘Jumbo’, began consuming alcohol just after 19:00hrs on the evening of Monday, December 17 and it was during that period that an argument ensued.

“Tall Boy don’t like the company Jermaine keeping with a girl because the police always coming to our house. Jermaine got annoyed and they had a heated quarrel. They scramble knife and cutlass. I told dem to stop. I threw out the bottle of rum before leaving the house to go to the police station to make a report. But as soon as I was on my way, the police patrol was passing and I called them. They stopped warned them, and left. But as soon as the police left they started to argue again.”

According to reports, it was just after midnight, that Barclay left her home for her grandmother’s residence at Lot 40 Mudflat, also in the Stanleytown community. Shortly before 05:00hrs, La Rose whom Barclay had met four years ago, visited his grandmother-in-law house and called for Asha, but left after he was told that she was sleeping.
Meanwhile, Silvia Mollyneaux, the grandmother, related that she was in the kitchen when her grandson Jermaine visited and demanded to see his sister, Asha. “At the time of his visit, he had a long and a short knife in his hand. He say, whey Asha. I will murder she.”
The elderly woman said she responded, ‘Not here! Not here’! before continuing her domestic chores and as ther grandson left the home.

She said that it was moments later two females came calling saying “Tall boy get bore up.” Barclay during his court appearance was represented by Attorney-at-law Mursulene Bacchus.
