A 24-YEAR-OLD man was on Friday charged for causing the death of Oquacy Lewis when he appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
Oscar Stull of Perseverance, East Bank Demerara appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan and denied the charge which stated that on December 10, 2018 at Peters Hall Public Road, Stull drove motor vehicle PWW 9187 in a manner dangerous to the public thereby causing the death of Oquacy Lewis.
The defendant, who works at John Fernandes as a clerk, was represented by Attorney-at law Patrice Henry who respectively made an application for bail. Police Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield, however, asked that conditions be attached to any bail relief. According to the facts of the case as presented in court by the police, on the night in question around 23:15hrs the defendant was the driver of motor car PWW 9187.
Stull reportedly was proceeding along the eastern carriage at Peters Hall Public Road at a fast rate, when he lost control and swerved to his right, resulting in the front right side of his vehicle colliding with Lewis, who at the time was working on the road, thus causing him to fall to the ground. Lewis was picked up and rushed to Georgetown Public Hospital where succumbed to his injuries.
Stull was released on $400,000 bail by the magistrate on condition that he lodges his passport and report to the Providence Police Station every Friday. The matter was adjourned to January 18, 2019.
