Simmons tops ODI batting charts

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (CMC) – Opener Lendl Simmons topped the run-scoring list in the just concluded One-Day International series, after showcasing excellent form following his recall after a year in the wilderness.
The right-hander reeled off four successive half-centuries to end the five-match series with 279 runs an average of 69.75, and to justify the selectors’ decision to end his year-long sojourn on the sidelines.

Simmons had scores of 24, 51, 51, 76 and 77 with stylish left-hander Darren Bravo the only other batsmen to get a half-century with 67.
In fact Bravo was the only other batsman to get over 100 runs with 147 as the Windies batting struggled especially in the earlier phase of the series.
Leg-spinner Devendra Bishoo, meanwhile, captured 11 wickets to top the aggregates on both sides.
The 25-year-old right-armer, who has played just 10 ODIs, was by far the regional side’s best bowler with his best haul being four for 37 in the fourth game which West Indies won by one run under the Duckworth/Lewis method.
Fast bowler Ravi Rampaul finished with eight wickets after picking up four for 32 in the third ODI at Kensington Oval which the home side lost by three wickets.
