NEW YORK (CBS 2) — The case of a missing Guyanese couple from New Jersey may have finally been solved.
The bodies of a man and a woman were found in Brooklyn Wednesday night.
Police made the gruesome discovery inside the Nissan Altima’s trunk after getting a call about a suspicious vehicle.
Neighbours said they first spotted the car there earlier this week.
“I noticed there were tickets on the car but no one knew there were dead bodies in there until cops came and taped it off,” one said.
The tickets could still be seen on the car.
Police said the bodies showed no visible signs of trauma. Detectives wanted to determine whether the victims were the missing New Jerseyans who disappeared last month.
Evande Orna, 39, who also goes by the name Casey and her 40-year-old boyfriend Troy Edwards were last seen on February 20. Both were from Plainfield.
They rented the Altima to head to Richmond, Virginia.
Police believe the couple made it to an apartment in Richmond, where they found disturbing evidence of a crime: a stun gun, duct tape and red-stained sheets.
Orna’s mother repeatedly called her daughter’s cell phone last week, but there was no answer.
“Casey we love you. Please come back to us. We miss you so bad. Could you help me locate my daughter, please?” said Orna’s mother, Veronica Ramessar.
The discovery of the bodies was a shock for neighbours who describe the neighbourhood as quiet and peaceful.
“We only see this on CSI, so this is definitely tragic,” one said.
A March 5 article in the Star Ledger on the missing couple had quoted Orna’s mother as saying, “I’m feeling lost, lonely, helpless, If she’s dead, I just want to know.”
Ramessar said, too, her daughter and Edwards have dated on and off for nearly two decades and recently, Orna told her mother that “my heart and soul are with Troy.”
Yet, Ramessar said she has her reservations about Edwards.
“I don’t think he did anything (with Orna),” Ramessar said. “(But) I don’t like him.”
Karla Peters, a public information officer with the Richmond Police Department had told the newspaper,
“We are continuing the investigation and we do believe they may be victims of foul play.”
Gene Lepley, a Richmond Police Department spokesman had said the couple drove to Virginia in a rented 2011 silver Nissan Altima that originally had New Jersey license plates YXE-62E. Investigators had also said they believe the car bears Viriginia license plates XNH-9410.
