SEVERAL police officers are currently under investigation after it was discovered that a ‘toy gun’ was entered into evidence during a gun and ammunition trial before a City Magistrate.
The fake gun was discovered on Tuesday before Magistrate Leron Daly during the trial of Carl Carter, who was busted with an illegal firearm and matching rounds at Palm Court, Georgetown last October.
The gun was brought by a senior police officer to be tendered into evidence in the court, however during examination the gun was discovered to be fake.
This newspaper was informed that the ballistic report does not match the said firearm which was listed. Crime Chief, Wendell Blanhum, confirmed on Wednesday that the matter is being investigated by the Police Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR).
Carl Carter, 32 was busted with a .38 revolver and four matching rounds on October 8, 2016 at Palm Court, Main Street, which he had in his possession while he was not the holder of a firearm license. He had pleaded not guilty to the charge and was later released on bail after spending almost three months on remand.
