Illegal gun case…

Previously denied farmer granted bail in High Court
FARMER Anthony Chand, who was, previously, refused bail on an unlawful firearm possession charge in a Magistrate’s Court, was granted bail on Monday.
He secured the grant from Acting Chief Justice Ian Chang, on a petition by Attorney-at-Law Mr. Mursulene Bacchus.

Chand, 30, who is charged with having a 9 mm pistol without a licence, was ordered, by the judge, to lodge $400,000 surety.
Police alleged that the gun was found, last September 24, during a raid on the cash crop planter’s Mibicuri , Black Bush Polder, Corentyne home.
The 20:40hrs find, by Police acting on information received, was in a clump of bushes and, later identified to be the property of the Guyana Police Force (GPF), issued to a Tactical Services Unit (TSU) rank performing anti-crime duties in Berbice and reported missing in August.
Before Justice Chang, the petitioner claimed he was forced to sign certain documents he did not read and he is the sole breadwinner for his family, whose trial may take months, as Court sits twice monthly at Mibicuri.
