AS human beings, it is naturally within us to help others in need or those that are less fortunate. Volunteers are a special group of people that give their time and resources to benefit others. These volunteers usually receive little or no reward for their services, but continue to render them anyway, believing that the cause of improving human livelihood and human standards is greater that monetary gain.
On Saturday, volunteers from local and international organisations participated in a national parade in observance of International Volunteers Day 2010, an event celebrated worldwide in appreciation for the efforts made by volunteers everywhere, and its impact on human development in countries where they work. In a developing country like Guyana, volunteers are a necessary force to aid in uplifting this country. Realising the importance of volunteers for Guyana, Minister of Labour, Manzoor Nadir stated that the Government of Guyana whole-heartedly supports volunteerism.
Volunteers are important and effective in resourcefully assisting in tragedy stricken areas where help is most needed, and for their selfless service, were most deservingly acknowledged by the government in this parade.
