AN ALBOUYSTOWN resident took full responsibility for having in his possession narcotics and utensils for use in the smoking of the drug.Twenty-eight-year-old Shawn Peters of Callender Street, Albouystown admitted to the charge which stated that on April 12, 2016, he had in his possession one gram of cannabis ( marijuana) and one gram of cocaine. Peters also admitted to the charge of possession of utensils for use in the smoking of the narcotics, that is to say one improvised metal pipe.
Police prosecutor Michael Grant stated that on the day in question, police officers saw the defendant, who is known to them, when they were on patrol in the Albouystown area.
He was stopped and they told him that they suspected that he had drugs and defendant granted the officers permission to conduct a search of his person.
The officers found the articles mentioned in a piece of greaseproof paper, which contained leaves, seed and stems and a whitish powdery substance. They also found an improvised metal pipe, which is used for the smoking of narcotics.
The contents of the parcel were weighed and tested positive for the said drugs.
Magistrate Annette Singh fined him $3,000 for the possession of cannabis, $10,000 and three years imprisonment for the possession of cocaine and $6,000 and one year for the improvised pipe. The sentences are to run concurrently.
