Inmates of the Camp Street prison have once again started another fire in the remand section on Thursday morning, this time resulting in six of them being severely burnt.
While firefighters are battling the blaze, six of the prisoners were rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital, Commander of ‘A’ Division, Clifton Hicken has confirmed.
The Guyana Chronicle was reliably informed that one of the prisoners has since died. On Wednesday night, the prisoners set ablaze their mattresses at the penitentiary during protest clamouring for their freedom and better living conditions.

Upon arrival at the scene last night, the Guyana Chronicle heard the disgruntled prisoners shouting “We want we freedom.”
