Rohee assures Region Five farmers on their concerns

After meeting them…
MINISTER of Home Affairs, Mr. Clement Rohee, met with farmers of Region Five (Mahaica/Berbice), in his Brickdam, Georgetown Ministry, on Monday, to discuss issues pertaining to security.

Regional Coordinator for Region Five, attached to the Ministry of Agriculture, Mr. Krishna Seolall drew attention to problems in the Abary area, including loss of cattle through theft and the need for a Police outpost to protect residents and their properties.
Responding, Minister Rohee urged the community to use the proper channels for reporting incidents of larceny to the Police station that is responsible for the particular area.
“Things need to be done properly,” he emphasized.
Rohee encouraged the complainants to follow up on the reported incidents and provide accurate information, so that the authorities will be able to delve deeper into the matters.
He also indicated his intention to investigate those in previous reports and raise them with the Commissioner of Police.
About the suggestion to establish a Police outpost, Rohee said there have been as many as 24 such requests, all of which carry a cost to build and maintain.
He also pointed out that all of the concerns raised cannot be solved by the Police alone but would require the cooperation of residents.
“This is how security is enforced,” Rohee added.
Several of those present expressed the feeling that the Government is neglecting to address the needs of Region Five residents but Rohee cited projects that the Ministry of Agriculture has overseen in Region Five and reiterated that the Government of Guyana does not discriminate.
“The Government does not operate that way,” he maintained.
