WPO commemorates 57th anniversary with National Day of Sports

THE Women’s Progressive Organisation (WPO) celebrated its 57th anniversary with a National Day of Sports at the National Park last Saturday. Members from Regions 3, 4, 5, 6 and 10 braved the rains and turned out in large numbers to participate in the 10/10 Softball Cricket and Domino Competitions.
Bijulee Moti, Sports and Culture Secretary of the WPO, started off the games on a high note, encouraging groups to play to their full potential. 
The teams that participated were No.69 Red Rose Cricket Team, Stewartville Cricket Team, No.68 All Star Team and Little Biaboo Sports Queen.
The final was played between No.69 Red Rose and No.68 All Star.
The champion team was No.68 All Star with 102 runs.
Top-scoring for the No.68 All Stars were Onika Tello with 50 runs and S. McBean with 21 runs, while for No.69 Red Rose was Umala Brandit who top-scored with an unbeaten 51.
The woman-of-the-match was Onika Tello with 85 runs.
Trophies were given to the two finalists and Woman-of-the-Match.
All the other players received T-shirts for their participation.
The domino competition was played by members from all the groups as mixed teams. The player with the highest points was Priya from the D’Edward WPO group
The Minister of Youth, Culture and Sport, Dr Frank Anthony and the General Secretary of the WPO Cde Indra Chandarpal made remarks at the event.
