Topp XX and Seawall battle to 1-1 draw

GFF Super League …
LINDEN club side Bakewell Topp XX and West Demerara’s Seawall United failed to enhance their positions after a 1-1 stalemate in the Guyana Football Federation’s (GFF) ‘Win in CONCACAF with CONCACAF’, FIFA-sponsored ten-club Super League first-round match, played on Saturday night  at the Mackenzie Sports Club ground.
It was not the worst case scenario for both teams who are jostling with Bartica’s Liquid Gold at the bottom rung of the ladder, as the first round nears completion.
The home side Topp XX took the lead through a strike by Keon Sears in the 61st minute and looked like gaining full points but for a late goal which came in added-on time, in the 92nd minute, allowed Seawall to come away with a 1-1 draw. That goal was scored from the penalty spot after a Topp XX player handled the ball one minute in injury time.
In fact, the 1-1 draw has maintained the spots occupied by the two clubs where Topp XX occupy eighth position on eight points with a final game to be played on Wednesday at the MSC ground against Georgetown’s Sunburst Camptown. Another Linden side Milerock, who are in fifth position with 12 points and sixth-placed East Coast side Victoria Kings with 11 points, will complete their round of matches on what is a double-header feature at Linden.
The other outstanding game in this first round happens to be the Sunburst Camptown versus Bartica’s Liquid Gold which may be played on Saturday after that game was not played last Saturday at the Georgetown Football Club ground due to its unavailability.
Already Georgetown’s Alpha United are leading the points tally They have won seven and drawn two for the top spot while second are Rosignol United with five wins, two draws and two losses for 17 points, as the Guyana Defence Force follow in third place with three wins, four draws and two losses for 13 points.
In fourth spot are Bakewell Buxton United with three wins, three draws and three losses for 12 points as Milerock, Victoria Kings, Camptown, Topp XX, Liquid Gold and Seawall United follow in that order. (Joe Chapman)
