Prosecution closes case in 2013 Mash murder trial –Defence of Number 2 accused begins Monday

PROSECUTRIX Miss Stacy Goodings, prosecuting the 2013 Mashramani murder trial closed the prosecution’s case yesterday after calling nine witnesses, including eye witness Navendra Mohabir. Eyewitness Navendra Mohabir, brother of the deceased Kumar Mohabir, 25, told Justice Navindra Singh and the mixed jury how his brother Kumar was beaten and stabbed to death, outside a tent on Vlissengen Road on Mashramani evening, 2013.

The witness Mohabir said that he too suffered injury to the face when he went to the rescue of Kumar who was attacked by a gang of young men, after one of them had complained that the young Mohabir had stepped on his foot. The witness was forced to retreat, but was able to identify the alleged killers at identification parades.
Accused Thomas was identified at an ID Parade at the Brickdam Police Station, while Randy Isaac was identified at an ID Parade at the Alberttown station.
Mohabir denied defence suggestions that the ID Parade was not convincing on the ground that the witness did not have the opportunity to properly identify his attackers and claimed that both accused had been properly identified.
The accused, represented by Mr. Peter Hugh and Miss Latchmi Rahamat, will decide on Monday what course the defence will take.
Prosecution witnesses, including a family member, police officer and a forensic pathologist have testified as to how the accused met his death.
