McCoy issue causes adjournment of RDC meeting

– Angry RDC Chairman throws meeting into disarray
THE monthly statutory meeting of the Region Four (Demerara/Mahaica) Regional Democratic Council (RDC), at the Triumph, East Coast Demerara office, was adjourned by Regional Chairman Clement Corlette yesterday, after it was established that Council Clerk Ashford Ambermuller had
failed to comply with a motion agreed on by the majority.
The motion, that People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) Councillor Kwame McCoy should be suspended for 90 days, was not communicated to him through correspondence.
After they had convened, Councillor Rainford Benfield questioned the presence of McCoy and Corlette requested that Ambermuller tell them whether or not the RDC decision was communicated to McCoy.
Conceding that it was not, Corlette, using his powers as Chairman, announced the adjournment until further notice.
Since the issue of the suspension was aired, McCoy has contended that the action against him is “bogus” and an unfair abuse of his rights as a councillor.
McCoy also challenged the leadership skills and capabilities of Corlette and said he and several other councillors, including Vice-Chairman Mohammed Khan, are not satisfied with either.
“Corlette’s leadership is of imbecilic value to Region Four and we need to address this,” McCoy charged.
