THE Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) has announced that it has engaged the professional services of Dr. Wil A. Campbell, Psychologist and Behaviour Modification Consultant, as the Board continues to advance its modernisation programme and strengthen the support systems available to Guyana’s cricketers and national teams.
Dr. Campbell’s engagement is part of the GCB’s broader commitment to ensuring that players, coaches, managers and other members of national teams are better prepared to meet the psychological, emotional and professional demands of high-performance sport.
Mr. Campbell is an academic at the University of Guyana and a practising psychologist licensed by the Allied Health Professions Council of Guyana. He is also a behaviour modification consultant whose professional work includes psychological intervention, anger-management therapy, grief therapy, behaviour modification and psychosocial capacity building. His consultancy experience includes engagements with several local and international organisations, including the Organisation of American States, USAID, ExxonMobil Corporation, the Guyana Prison Service, and the Ministry of Human Services.
The Board believes that modern cricket development must extend beyond technical skills, physical conditioning and tactical preparation. It must also place greater emphasis on the mental and psychological wellbeing of players and support personnel, particularly as athletes must manage the pressures and expectations associated with competitive and professional cricket.
Work under this initiative has already commenced with at least one player, where the Board has facilitated professional assessment and ongoing remedial procedures.
The GCB considers this engagement another important component of its continuing modernization program and its efforts to establish a more comprehensive and professional support structure for Guyana’s cricketers.
President of the Guyana Cricket Board Mr. Bissoondyal Singh welcomed Dr. Campbell to the GCB and expressed confidence that his professional expertise will contribute meaningfully to the development and overall preparedness of players, coaches, and team management personnel.
The Guyana Cricket Board extends a warm welcome to Dr. Campbell, and looks forward to a productive relationship as the organisation continues to strengthen its high-performance and player-development programmes.
