GUYANA’S taekwondo star Ceili Peterson has secured a bronze medal in the women’s Kyorugi 49kg category on Wednesday at the South American Games in Santa Fe, Argentina.

She got a bye into the quarter-final, where she had to battle Bolivia’s Maria Hurtado, and secured a comfortable win in the end to book a place in the semi-final.

In the ensuing semi-finals she faced Colombia’s Andrea Ramirez, who ended the contest after winning back-to-back rounds to claim a 2-0 victory.

Peterson, forced to tackle Argentina’s Priscila Rodriguez bounced back commendably to get her hand on the hardware.

She beat Rodriguez 2 – 0 to collect Guyana’s first medal, a bronze at the 2026 South American Games.
