WIN MP released on $200,000 bail after firearm found in vehicle

WE Invest in Nationhood (WIN) Member of Parliament (MP) Natasha Singh was arrested by police after a Glock 19 9mm pistol and 12 rounds of ammunition were found in a bag in the trunk of a vehicle she was travelling in with her husband.

The vehicle was intercepted at Friendship, East Bank Demerara (EBD), shortly after midnight on Wednesday.

The Guyana Police Force (GPF) said the discovery was made around 00:15hrs on August 26, 2026. Ranks attached to Regional Division 4’B’ Headquarters, acting on information received, intercepted a black Toyota Allion, registration PAH 4034, at a property along the Public Road.

Singh was in the vehicle with her 35-year-old husband, a businessman of Campbellville, Georgetown, when police stopped and searched the car in their presence.

During the search, ranks reportedly found a bag in the trunk containing one Glock 19 9mm pistol and a magazine loaded with 12 live rounds of ammunition.

A photocopy of a firearm licence issued in the name of Dawn Hastings-Williams was also found in the bag.

Police seized the firearm and ammunition and arrested both occupants. They were taken, along with the vehicle, to the Farm/Herstelling Police Station and placed in custody.

The firearm, magazine and 12 rounds were photographed and lodged for safekeeping, while the motorcar was also lodged.

At about 09:00hrs on Wednesday, Singh was interviewed by detectives and, after consulting with her lawyer, provided a statement.

She was subsequently released at approximately 11:42hrs on $200,000 station bail.

The police said investigations are continuing.
