GUYANA Power and Light (GPL) Inc. has stepped up oversight of several major electricity infrastructure projects, with senior management meeting key contractors to assess progress, address implementation challenges and ensure works remain on schedule.
Head of GPL’s Executive Management Committee, Kesh Nandlall, led a delegation that met with representatives of InterEnergy, PowerChina, China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMC) and Kalpataru Projects International Ltd. (KPIL) to review ongoing works across the national electricity network.
The contractors provided updates on project implementation, timelines, upcoming milestones and areas requiring further attention.
Discussions also focused on challenges affecting the execution of the projects, with GPL emphasising the need for stronger coordination among stakeholders and timely resolution of issues that could affect delivery.
The utility said the projects form part of its broader infrastructural development programme aimed at strengthening the electricity network and improving its reliability, resilience and operational efficiency.
The increased focus on project execution comes as electricity demand continues to grow, placing greater importance on expanding and upgrading the country’s power infrastructure to meet current and future needs.
GPL said continued engagement with contractors will be important to ensuring that the projects are implemented effectively and deliver the intended improvements to the national electricity system.
