A 42-year-old labourer is in police custody after 17.2 grammes of suspected cannabis were allegedly found concealed in his clothing during a patrol in Moruca, Region One, on Monday evening.
Police said the discovery was made at about 18:20 hours along Kumaka Hospital Road, where ranks attached to Regional Division One were conducting a mobile patrol.
During the patrol, the ranks observed the man, of Skyland Village, Moruca, seated on an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) and allegedly appearing to be under the influence of alcohol.
The ranks stopped and searched him, during which they allegedly found a transparent plastic bag containing leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis concealed in the upper right pocket of his trousers.
The man was arrested and taken to the Acquero Police Station, along with the suspected narcotics and the ATV.
Police said the suspected cannabis was weighed in the man’s presence at the station and amounted to 17.2 grammes before being lodged.
He remains in custody as investigations continue.
