FIVE Chinese nationals have been arrested and charged for alleged immigration offences after they were found to have overstayed the period permitted under their travel documents, the Guyana Police Force said.
The individuals, aged 34, 53, 31, 59 and 50, were initially arrested on June 16, 2026, during an enforcement operation at the Rock Creek Mining Area in Puruni, Region Seven.
According to the police, the five were allegedly found engaged in illegal mining activities during the operation.
Checks of their travel documents subsequently revealed that they had overstayed their permitted period in Guyana.
The five individuals were subsequently charged and processed to appear in court.
