POLICE are investigating an alleged $2.61 million fraud in which two brothers were reportedly duped into paying for firearm licences that were never legitimately approved.
The victims, aged 35 and 30, are a contractor and an operator, both of Best Plantation, West Coast Demerara.
According to preliminary investigations, the brothers were allegedly approached by a 40-year-old driver of Eccles New Scheme, East Bank Demerara, who reportedly claimed that he could assist them in obtaining firearm licences.
During the process, the victims allegedly paid a total of $2.61 million and later received documents purporting to be approvals for the licences.
However, the documents were subsequently examined and allegedly found to be fraudulent.
The matter was reported to the police on Monday, July 20, 2026.
Efforts are being made to locate the suspect and another person reportedly connected to the matter as investigations continue.
