A wooden and concrete house was destroyed by fire early Tuesday morning at Lot 38, Second Street, Area Eight, Better Hope, East Coast Demerara.

The Guyana Fire Service said firefighters arrived at the scene to find the unoccupied building fully engulfed in flames.

Ranks quickly brought the blaze under control, successfully preventing it from spreading to two nearby buildings.

Although the affected structure was destroyed, the swift response of firefighters helped save the neighbouring properties from extensive damage.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
