Five-vehicle crash leaves one injured at Conversation Tree

A 28-year-old man sustained injuries after a five-vehicle collision at the intersection of Conversation Tree Road and Railway Embankment, Blygezight, Georgetown, on Monday morning.

Police said the accident occurred at about 08:50 hrs and involved motor jeep PAD 3891, driven by a 58-year-old member of the Guyana Fire Service, along with motor cars PAG 3236, PGG 9135, PAN 4053 and PAB 2512.

According to preliminary investigations, the jeep was proceeding south along Conversation Tree Road when it allegedly overtook two stationary vehicles at a traffic light that was reportedly red in its direction before entering the intersection.

Police said the jeep then collided with motor car PAG 3236, which was proceeding west along Railway Embankment Road with the traffic light reportedly showing green.

The impact caused the jeep to lose control, while motor car PAG 3236 continued forward and collided with three stationary vehicles.

The driver of motor car PGG 9135, a 28-year-old resident of Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara, sustained a fractured right shoulder and facial lacerations.

He was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, where he was treated and later discharged.

Police said breathalyser tests conducted on all drivers returned readings below the prescribed legal limit.

CCTV footage from cameras in the area is being reviewed as investigations continue.
