A 26-year-old shopkeeper from Ann’s Grove, East Coast Demerara, has been sentenced to three years and five months’ imprisonment after being found guilty of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.
Ezekiel Lewis, also known as “Bell”, of Lot 12 Ann’s Grove, was convicted on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, following the conclusion of his trial at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court.
Lewis had been arrested on October 8, 2025, and was subsequently charged two days later under Section 5(1)(a)(i) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Control) Act, Chapter 10:10.
He first appeared before Magistrate Teriq Mohamed at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court on October 10, 2025, where the charge was formally read to him. Lewis entered a plea of not guilty, resulting in the matter proceeding to trial.
Following the completion of the trial proceedings, Magistrate Mohamed found Lewis guilty of the offence and imposed a sentence of three years and five months’ imprisonment.
Authorities have not released additional details regarding the quantity or type of narcotics involved in the case.
