THE Ministry of Housing is moving to expand its Region Three Housing Office as part of efforts to improve customer service delivery and accommodate the growing demand for housing services in the region.
Minister of Housing, Collin Croal, on Wednesday, announced the expansion initiative during a recent visit to the Regional Housing Office, noting that the move is necessary to support the significant increase in housing allocations and related transactions recorded in Region Three over the past several years.
According to Minister Croal, the rapid expansion of housing development in the region has resulted in a corresponding increase in the number of residents accessing services at the office, placing added pressure on existing facilities and staff.
“The housing programme continues to grow, and with increased allocations comes increased business and greater demand for services,” Minister Croal explained, adding that the ministry has processed thousands of transactions in Region Three over the past five years and expects that number to continue rising.
He disclosed that the expansion project will see the construction of an additional 4,000 square feet of office space, creating a more spacious and comfortable environment for both staff and members of the public.
The minister noted that the expanded facility will allow the ministry to increase staffing levels within the regional office, thereby improving operational efficiency and reducing waiting times for residents seeking housing-related services.
“We recognise that as housing development continues to expand in Region Three, our service delivery mechanisms must also expand to meet the needs of the population,” Croal said.
He further explained that the initiative forms part of a broader national strategy to strengthen the ministry’s presence across Guyana, with similar expansion efforts being pursued in other regions.
“We are expanding in every region as part of our commitment to the housing sector,” the minister stated.
Croal also appealed for patience from members of the public as the ministry works to enhance its operations, noting that recent housing allocation exercises have generated increased traffic at regional offices.
He pointed to the recent International Building Expo, where the ministry commenced the signing process for allottees in areas including Leonora and De Kinderen, explaining that many beneficiaries subsequently visit regional offices for follow-up services, contributing to the increased volume of customers.
The minister assured residents that the planned expansion, coupled with the addition of more personnel, will significantly improve the ministry’s ability to serve the growing population of Region Three and support the government’s ongoing housing programme.
