THE Ministry of Labour and Manpower Planning, through its Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Department, is hosting a seminar aimed at improving safety practices within the construction sector in Region Four.
The seminar, which is being held at the Regional Democratic Council (RDC) Boardroom in Triumph, East Coast Demerara, brings together key stakeholders under the theme “Putting Safety First.”
According to the Ministry, the initiative is designed to strengthen workplace safety standards by improving awareness of occupational safety and health legislation, construction site safety protocols, conditions of employment, and related regulatory frameworks.
Participants are also being exposed to presentations on the National Insurance Scheme (NIS) and network safety, as part of a broader effort to enhance compliance and reduce workplace incidents across the construction industry.
In addition to the technical presentations, the seminar includes an interactive question-and-answer session, allowing participants to engage directly with facilitators and discuss practical safety challenges within the sector.
The Ministry of Labour and Manpower Planning said the programme forms part of its ongoing efforts to promote safer working environments and ensure greater adherence to occupational health and safety standards across all industries, particularly construction, which remains a high-risk sector.
Officials noted that continued stakeholder engagement and education are critical to reducing workplace accidents and fostering a culture of safety nationwide.
