RESIDENTS living in the South of the Essequibo Coast are benefitting from enhanced healthcare services at Suddie Public Hospital, as the Public Hospital continues to expand its specialist care and diagnostic capabilities.
This update was presented by RDC Councillor, Melrose Henry, during the Region Two Regional Democratic Council statutory meeting on Wednesday last, based on a report from Dr Coleen Adams, Doctor-in-Charge of Suddie Public Hospital.
A major boost to patient care came with the recent arrival of two new medical specialists—a paediatrician and a urologist—who have assumed duty at the hospital. The specialists will render services at Lima Regional Hospital, increasing access to specialised healthcare services for residents throughout the region.
The Suddie Public Hospital has also recorded impressive figures in diagnostic services for 2026. To date, 3,376 X-rays have been conducted, including 651 during the month of May. Additionally, medical staff performed 474 mammograms and 1,102 ultrasound examinations, demonstrating the hospital’s growing capacity to provide vital diagnostic and screening services close to home.
In its ongoing efforts to monitor and combat dengue fever, the hospital carried out 1,416 dengue tests for the year.
Regional Health Officer, Dr Ranjeev Singh, continues to encourage residents to eliminate mosquito breeding sites and seek prompt medical attention when symptoms arise.
No major issues were reported at the facility, reflecting the dedication of the hospital’s management and staff to maintaining high standards of healthcare delivery.
Having listened to the report, Regional Chairman, Devin Mohan, highlighted Suddie Public Hospital’s continued progress in strengthening healthcare services, improving access to specialist care, and enhancing diagnostic capabilities, ensuring that residents of Region Two receive quality medical attention within their own communities.
“Region Two is developing especially under health. Persons can have access to essential medical services. Many times in the past persons had to travel outside the region; however with improved services residents [are] accessing same within their reach” Devin Mohan said.
