UNICEF Guyana, in collaboration with the Rights of the Child Commission and the Child Rights Ambassadors Guyana, officially opened a Youth Advocacy and Climate Change Capacity Training, on Tuesday.
According to information from UNICEF’s official Facebook page, the three-day training brings together young advocates from five regions of the country, Regions One, Three, Four, Five, and Nine, in what organisers describe as a focused effort to strengthen youth-led advocacy for children’s rights and climate resilience.
The training, which runs through Thursday, centres on some of the most pressing issues facing children and young people in Guyana today.
Participants are exploring themes including climate change, mental health, digital safety, and social inequalities, all of which intersect with the lived experiences of young Guyanese across diverse communities.
Beyond awareness-building, the programme places a strong emphasis on equipping participants with practical skills.
Leadership development, communication strategies, and civic engagement form core components of the curriculum, ensuring that advocates leave not only informed, but also empowered to take action in their communities, UNICEF said.
